DPF Welcomes Ana Zamora!

Posted by Stefanie on August 31st, 2011

Ana has long admired the work of Death Penalty Focus and is honored and excited to join this organization as Program Director. Ana graduated from Mills College in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political, Legal, Economic Analysis and a Minor in Sociology. Two weeks after graduation, Ana was selected for a job that would really change her life. The California Appellate Project (CAP) hired Ana, as their new Training and Mitigation Coordinator. At CAP Ana had the opportunity to work alongside expert capital defense lawyers and learn about California's dysfunctional death penalty system. After working at CAP for four years, Ana was hired to work with Natasha Minsker at the ACLU of Northern California on their Death Penalty Policy Project. Ana will continue to work with the ACLU's death penalty project part-time. Ana lives in sunny Oakland with her wife, Stacey, and her cat named Turtle.

You folks who take on the death penalty are humanitarians and awesome people...Can you help me with marketing ideas to help prisoner and their families understand redemption will come from wriing? I spent 10 years in prison on drug charges and had a vision to help prisoners find another way of life through writing and art. I have now published 5 novels and short stories about the drug war and a prison system that breeds gangs. The book covers for my books are art from prisoners. Can you help market this endeavor on your site or elsewhere? God bless!

Welcome, Ana, at this exciting time for abolition in
Califonia as the SAFE California initiative campaign gets
underway. To end the death penalty in our state at the
ballot box may be a precedent with widespread impact,
nationally and internationally. Thank you for being there
to help make it happen, and to continue Stefanie's
    outstanding leadership.
